How we count visitors

Some sites hosted by 3ft9 Consulting Ltd count their visitors. This notice covers that counting on every site that links to it. Each of those sites has its own box to opt out, on its privacy page, in its footer or in its settings.

Who is responsible

3ft9 Consulting Ltd, registered in England and Wales no. 17218523, is the controller of the data the counting collects. Write to dpo@3ft9.com with any question about this notice or your data.

What we collect

When a page loads, we record which page you viewed, the site that linked to it, any campaign tags in the page's address, your country, your browser and operating system, and whether you are on a phone, a tablet or a computer.

No cookies are set. Visitors are counted with a code made from your IP address and browser, which changes every day and is deleted the day after. Your IP address is never stored.

Why we use it

We use it to see which pages are read and how people find them, so that we can improve the sites. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in doing so. UK law allows statistics of this kind without consent, provided you are told about them and can object.

Who else handles it

OVH hosts the counting service and its database in France. Cloudflare carries traffic between your browser and the service. Encrypted backups are stored with Amazon Web Services in Germany. Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services are US companies, so data may be transferred outside the UK and the EU. Those transfers rely on each company's standard safeguards for international transfers.

How long we keep it

Page views are kept for 90 days, and the totals built from them for a year. The daily codes are deleted the day after the one they belong to. Deleted data leaves our backups within six weeks.

Opting out

Tick the box on the site you are visiting, on its privacy page, in its footer or in its settings. Your choice is stored in your browser for that web address only, so each site has its own box, and so does each organisation or community on its own subdomain. Nothing is sent when your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, or when JavaScript is off.

On 3ft9.com, the box is here:

Your rights

You can object at any time by opting out. You can also ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct, erase or restrict it, though nothing we keep says which page views were yours. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
